Nor
Look at the examples.
Jack cant speak Turkish. Fred cant speak Turkish.
Jack cant speak Turkish nor can Fred.
= Jack and Fred cant speak Turkish.
You dont know how to cook. I dont know how to cook.
You dont know how to cook nor do I.
As seen above, two negative sentences can be joined with nor. In that case the helping verb and subject are said in question form (inversion).

Either obey the rules or go away.
= Obey the rules or go away.
Dou you know either Turkish or Arabic.
= Do you understand Turkish or Arabic.
NOTICE : When the subjects joined with either…………..or are singular, the verb become singular, if the subjects are plural, the verb becomes plural.

= Altough the lesoon has started, the students are stil in the garden.
He ate breakfast. I didnt eat breakfast.
He ate breakfast but I didnt.
I didnt eat breakfast but he did.
As seen above but is used to join two basic sentences opposing each other in any way. If there are the same elements in each sentence, when they are joined with but, the elements in the first sentence arent repeated, they are dropped.
Exercise 10. Combine the following pairs of sentences using but.

A bird can fly but a cat cant.
2 I wrote a letter to Mr Spur. He hasnt answered it yet.
3 She drank tea. Her husband drank beer.
